CMS and MRNY staff collaborate to host a Citizenship Workshop.

On Saturday, February 28th, Catholic Migration Services teamed up with Make the Road NY to host a workshop to help lawful permanent residents start their applications to become naturalized US citizens. The event took place at the Make the Road office in Bushwick, Brooklyn.

Relying on the help of dedicated staff and volunteers, Make The Road NY and CMS were able to assist a total 37 people and start them on the path to citizenship. In addition, immigration attorneys and accredited representatives were on site to review applications, answer any complex legal questions, and provide further information on the next steps in the process.

“We were so thrilled to get the opportunity to work together with Make the Road and put on such a successful event,” Zachary Shultz said, the CMS Naturalization Coordinator. “Partnerships like these allow us to reach more community members with vital services and increase our capacity and efficiency overall. By getting more people on a path to citizenship, we are creating more integrated communities and strengthening the civic engagement of the city as a whole.”

The next Citizenship Application Assistance Workshop will be held on Saturday, March 14th at William Cullen Bryant High School in Long Island City, Queens. Catholic Migration Services is serving as the Co-leader of the event along with NALEO Educational Fund and other partner organizations in the New Americans Campaign NYC Collaborative.
