Catholic Migration Services Responds to the Trump Administration’s Assault on Immigrant Communities

For over 50 years, Catholic Migration Services has been at the forefront of the fight to protect immigrant rights. Catholic Migration Services reaffirms its commitment to promoting justice and compassion for immigrant communities in the face of recent measures taken by the Trump Administration, including the termination of vital protections to immigrant populations fleeing violence and unrest in their home countries, threats of mass deportation, and xenophobic rhetoric that has instilled deep fear in immigrant communities. “In light of the Trump Administration’s recent executive actions that take aim at immigrant communities, we are reminded of the importance of Catholic Migration Services’ mission to ‘welcome the stranger in our midst.’ Human dignity is not dependent on a person’s citizenship or immigration status. Now more than ever, our work on behalf of immigrant communities is particularly urgent,” stated Director of Legal Services, Magdalena Barbosa. In recent weeks Catholic Migration Services has updated the Know Your Rights page on our website with critical information on the rights of all immigrants in the United States. We will continue to work with our partners in local parishes and community organizations to provide information about the Administration’s new executive actions and immigration policies.
