CMS Educates Parishioners in Queens on Workers’ Rights

On Sunday January 19th, Staff Attorney Alice Davis and CMS staff gave a presentation on workers’ rights in the workplace to the parishioners of Immaculate Conception in Astoria, Queens. After the mass, Alianza Hispana organized a gathering to commemorate Virgen de La Altagracia Day which is celebrated by the Dominican community in recognition of Mary who is regarded as the mother and protector spirit of the Dominican Republic. Parishioners who gathered for the celebration also received a presentation on labor rights and CMS’ Workers’Rights Program from Outreach Assistant Rebecca Rybaltowski. Rebecca emphasized that CMS has great resources and expert counsel for workers who are experiencing abuses in the work place or for workers who are not receiving adequate compensation for their labor.

Staff Attorney Alice Davis was available after the presentation in order to answer specific questions from parishioners. Parishioners asked about protecting themselves from work place retaliation and they were interested in understanding how they could access their back pay.
