Catholic Migration Services Fall Benefit 2012

Some of our supporters enjoying the event.

On the evening of September 20th, 2012, invited guests gathered for the Catholic Migration Services Fall Benefit, sponsored by Time Warner.  From our event space on the 10th Floor of the Time Warner Center, our attendees had a beautiful view of Central Park and the surrounding cityscape of Columbus Circle as the sun set across midtown Manhattan.

Live music, provided by Robert Marcic, welcomed everyone as they arrived and the set the tone for an enjoyable evening. During the event, guests were able to network with several of our staff members and learn more about the services we provide, as well as discuss current issues affecting the immigrant community in Brooklyn and Queens.

Speaking on behalf of Time Warner’s General Counsel, Kwanza Butler shared a few words about Time Warner’s commitment to civic engagement, and their support of Catholic Migration Services.  Robert McCreanor, Director of Legal Services, then spoke about the work of our organization, and introduced Angelika Chaya, a former client, and now community advocate.

Our Director of Legal Services, Robert McCreanor, Esq. with guest speaker Angelika Chaya.

Angelika shared with our guests her experience as an immigrant in the United States.  She also spoke of the housing challenges she faced, and how CMS was able to provide valuable assistance and critical legal services as she took on and eventually won her case against an unfair landlord.  She then shared how her experience empowered her to help other immigrants in her community through her involvement with the Queens Housing Coalition.

The short program concluded with our Executive Director and CEO, Fr. Patrick J. Keating.  He thanked our event sponsor, Time Warner, and all those who joined us for our event—guests, board members, and staff.
