CMS Gears Up for 2014-2015 Community Meetings

Community meeting

Immigrant Tenant Advocacy Program staff members (from left to right) Lorena Lopez, Kenny Minaya, and Mariam Magar.

For more than three years, CMS has sponsored the largest regularly occurring tenants meeting in New York City. We will resume our monthly meetings beginning September 24th and continue through 2014-2015. This year’s community meeting program promises to be impactful and inspiring as we connect community members to important issue campaigns and critical services and build lasting relationships.

In the past, we have partnered with various other service providers and advocacy organizations in our community such as Fidelis Health Care, Catholic Charities of Brooklyn and Queens, Central Hispano Cuzcatlan, Queens Library, La Fuente, New Economy Project, Chhaya CDC, Make the Road NY and many others. In 2014-2015, we will build upon these partnerships and forge new ones including an exciting collaboration with Jacob Riis Settlement House, Sunnyside Community Services, and Hunter School of Social Work.

At each monthly meeting, CMS legal staff is present to provide assistance in immigration, housing and employment matters. These monthly community meetings are an important point of access for community members to reach CMS and other organizations while also enjoying the warmth of home cooked food and music.
