Línea Laboral, CMS’ bilingual workers’ rights hotline, was featured in a full-page article in the January 2013 edition of Nuestra Voz, the Diocese of Brooklyn’s Spanish-language newspaper.

The article, written by Immigrant Workers’ Rights Program Coordinator Maureen Hussain, tells the story of Ramon, who contacted Línea Laboral because he was being underpaid and faced discrimination at his job as a butcher. With the help of CMS attorneys, Ramon successfully filed a lawsuit against his boss with the help of CMS attorneys and was paid the wages he was owed.

Ramon learned about Línea Laboral at one of CMS’ Queens Housing Coalition meetings, held monthly at St. Sebastian’s Parish in Woodside. Línea Laboral’s presence at Queens Housing Coalition meetings is part of an ongoing outreach effort to bring workers’ rights information and legal services to immigrant workers in Brooklyn and Queens.
