CMS Educates Parishioners in Queens on Workers’ Rights

On Sunday January 19th, Staff Attorney Alice Davis and CMS staff gave a presentation on workers’ rights in the workplace to the parishioners of Immaculate Conception in Astoria, Queens. After the mass, Alianza Hispana organized a gathering to commemorate Virgen de La Altagracia Day which is celebrated by the Dominican community in recognition of Mary who is regarded as the mother and protector spirit of the Dominican Republic. Parishioners who gathered for the celebration also received a presentation on labor rights and CMS’ Workers’Rights Program from Outreach Assistant Rebecca Rybaltowski. Rebecca emphasized that CMS has great resources and expert counsel for workers who are experiencing abuses in the work place or for workers who are not receiving adequate compensation for their labor. Brooklyn Parishioners Receive Workers’ Rights Information

On Sunday January 12th CMS staff began their first week of Linea Laboral outreach to parishes in the Brooklyn Dioceses. Parishioners are primarily being informed about the recent increase to the NYS minimum wage. CMS staff will be presenting information about worker’s rights in the work place. (more…)

CMS Participates in an Immigration Forum

Immigration Counselor Marisol Canales answers questions about CMS services.

On Thursday December 19th CMS Immigration Counselor Marisol Canales and CMS Outreach Assistant Rebecca Rybaltowski spoke on a panel at a town hall meeting focused on labor and immigration issues. The event was held at St. Rita Parish in Brooklyn and it was hosted by Councilman Rafael Espinal’s office and Catholic Charities. Present on the panel were representatives from: Legal Aid Society, The New York State Department of Labor;Occupational Safety and Health Administration; the NYC Police Department and the law firm of Allen Kaye.
